The Challenge
Nick reached out because he wanted to generate more organic leads for Professional Plumbing Works instead of maintaining a high Local Service Ads spend for visibility.
He had already built what many businesses spend years working toward which is: a strong reputation, satisfied customers, and a growing collection of positive Google reviews. The quality of the company wasn’t the issue. The challenge was that much of that value wasn’t being communicated online.
When potential customers searched for a plumber in Sedalia, Professional Plumbing Works wasn’t as visible as it could be. Even when visitors found the website, it didn’t fully showcase the professionalism, quality of work, or trust the company had earned over the years.
The site’s structure made it difficult for both customers and search engines to navigate. Service information was limited, the content strategy was minimal, and there wasn’t a clear path guiding visitors from their search to becoming a customer.
After sitting down and understanding where Nick wanted to take the business, it became clear that simply “doing SEO” wasn’t going to get him to where we both saw it could be. The website, local visibility, and content strategy all needed to work together.
Rather than chasing a quick ranking increase, we focused on building a stronger foundation, one that would better represent the business, improve customer experience, and create longer term growth while holding rank.
Building the Foundation
Every successful SEO campaign starts long before a page begins ranking.
Before making changes, we took the time to research and document how customers searched for plumbing services, what information they expected to find, and where/how information lands in front of the eyes of viewers. Where Professional Plumbing Works stood compared to other companies in the area is what let us leverage a unique in point for them.
Instead of treating the website as a fancy or glorified digital business card, we approached it as a foundation for the company’s entire online presence, branding, and values. Every improvement needed to benefit both the customer experience, position PPW accurately, and gain search visibility.
This led to rethinking how the website was organized, expanding service coverage, strengthening the technical foundation, and creating a content strategy that answered the questions customers were already giving volume to online.
Rather than relying on a single tactic and having a jarring of one new element on top of an older architecture, the project became a collection of improvements that worked together to represent what the company is and letting ranking results follow. The goal was to prove credibility to the search engine itself.
Rebuilding the Website
Once the strategy was established, the website became the first major focus.
The previous website contained valuable information, but it was hard to use for customers and search engines. Visitors often had to dig for what theyd rather quickly be able to access, and many of the services Professional Plumbing Works offered didn’t have dedicated pages capable of ranking on their own.
Rather than adding new content onto the existing structure, we rebuilt the site around the way customers actually search.

Each core plumbing service received its own dedicated page with clear navigation, descriptive content, and internal links connecting related services together. This gave search engines a better understanding of what Professional Plumbing Works specialized in while making it easier for visitors to find exactly what they needed.

The homepage was also redesigned to better communicate the company’s professionalism, experience, and values from the moment someone landed on the site. Clearer calls to action, improved service organization, and stronger trust signals helped transform the website from an online brochure into a platform built to generate business.
Every page was designed with the same principle in mind:
If a customer lands here for the first time, they should immediately understand who Professional Plumbing Works is, what they do, and why they can be trusted.

Developing a Content Strategy
A website shouldn’t only answer the questions customers already know to ask. It should also answer the questions they haven’t thought of yet.
Instead of creating content simply to increase the number of pages on the site, each new page was written with a specific purpose. Some pages were designed to rank for high intent plumbing services, while others answered common questions customers searched before they were ready to make a phone call.

This created a content ecosystem where every page supported another. Service pages established relevance for individual plumbing services, while supporting articles helped build authority around those topics and introduced Professional Plumbing Works to customers earlier in their search journey.
By organizing information around real customer behavior instead of isolated keywords, the website became more valuable to both visitors and search engines.
Rather than asking, “What keywords should we target?”, the better question became:
“What information would genuinely help someone solve their problem?”

The search rankings become a byproduct of providing that value consistently.
Content Strategy Goals
- Create dedicated pages for core plumbing services.
- Answer common customer questions through educational content.
- Strengthen topical authority across plumbing-related searches.
- Support service pages with relevant internal links.
- Capture customers throughout different stages of the buying journey.
- Build content that remains valuable long after publication.
Measuring the Results
A successful marketing strategy isn’t built on assumptions. Every major decision throughout the project was backed by measurable data.
From the beginning, analytics and tracking were treated as part of the foundation rather than an afterthought. Understanding how visitors interacted with the website allowed us to identify what was working, what could be improved, and where future opportunities existed.
Google Analytics, Search Console, and conversion tracking provided insight into how customers discovered Professional Plumbing Works, which pages attracted the most attention, and where visitors ultimately became leads.
Instead of relying solely on rankings, we measured the overall health of the website through multiple indicators:
- Organic search visibility
- Website traffic
- Search impressions
- Click-through rates
- Keyword rankings
- User behavior
- Lead generation
These metrics made it possible to continually refine the strategy rather than making changes based on assumptions alone.
Every improvement became another data point that helped guide the next decision.
The Results
After rebuilding the website, expanding service coverage, strengthening the site’s technical foundation, and developing a long-term content strategy, Professional Plumbing Works reached the Local 3 Pack while earning a #3 organic ranking for one of the area’s most competitive local searches:
“Plumbers Sedalia MO”
The ranking itself wasn’t the objective, but it was the result of creating an online presence that better represented the quality of the business behind it.
While this project is still ongoing, the foundation is now in place for continued growth through ongoing optimization, content development, and local SEO improvements.
This case study documents the first major milestone of that journey. Stay tuned for the follow up breaking down specific search metrics.
